Class # 522
Valentine's
Drawer
| Building the Case |
[Before I started this project, I measured all
of the chipboard
pieces and
wrote the
measurement
on each piece. Then I figured out which pieces
when to the
case, and
which belonged
with the
drawer.]
Find:
• Two 6 1/2" x 6 1/2" pieces for the top and bottom
• Two 6 1/2" x 2 1/2" pieces for the sides
• One 2 1/2" x 6 3/8" piece for the back. (It might
be helpful to label
these pieces
in pencil.)
| Glue the case together,
with the side
and back pieces adhered along the edges of the back
and so that the back piece rests between the two
side pieces. Glue the top piece to this. Set this
aside and allow it to dry. |

| Building The Drawer |
Find:
• One 6 3/8" square for the bottom
• Two 2 3/8" x 6 3/8" pieces for the sides
• One 2 3/8" x 6 1/8" piece for the back
• One 6 1/2" x 2 5/8" square for the front
Set the front piece
aside for
now. (It
might be
helpful to label these pieces in pencil.)
Glue the other pieces together to
make a drawer,
with the side and back pieces adhered along the edges
of the back and so that the back piece rests between
the two side pieces. The front will be covered separately
at the end and glued into place with the drawer in
its case. Set the drawer aside and allow it to dry. |
| Covering the Case |
Cut two 8" squares of AG1184 Roses.
Cover the top and bottom of the case with these,
folding the excess up and over the sides and opening,
cutting away any double thickness of paper. After
adhering the pieces, use a bone folder to go over
the edges to make the edges crisp. |

Cut two 12" x 2" strips of AG1188
Pink Floral.
Adhere these around the sides of the case, starting
at the center back with each piece and allowing the
ends to go into the case. Be sure to center each
piece on the sides of the case. After adhering the
pieces, use a bone folder to go over the edges to
make the edges crisp. |

| Cut two 1 1/8" [X12"] strips of AG1183
(Stripes); center
these strips
onto the green
stripe surrounded
by pink. Adhere
these around
the box as you
did with the
pink stripes, but start these slightly off center
to avoid making an unsightly seam over the other
one. Center these stripes onto the AG1188 Pink Floral.
After adhering the pieces, use a bone folder to go
over the edges to make the edges crisp. |

Class # 522
Valentine's Drawer
| Covering the Drawer |
Cut two 2 1/4" x 12" pieces and one
2 1/4" x 8" of AG1184 Rose paper. Set one of the
long pieces aside
to use on the
front of the drawer.
Use the other
pieces to line the inside sides of the drawer, cutting
off excess that would come out of the front of the
drawer. |
Insert the drawer into the case so
that the
edge of the
drawer protrudes
slightly
from the
open front.
[I did not
put the drawer
into the
case. It just worked better for me to keep
it separate.
Make sure your front and side stripes match
up.]
| Drawer Front |
Use an 8" x 4" piece of AG1184 (left
over from cutting
the squares that covered your case) to cover one
side of your drawer front, allowing the edges to
fold over the sides and onto the reverse side of
the chipboard. This will actually be the inside of
the drawer front. Use a bone folder to go over the
edges to make the edges crisp. |
Cut a 2" x 6 1/2" piece of AG1188
Pink Floral and
a 1 1/8" x 6" [This should be 1 1/8" X 7 1/2"] piece
of AG1183 Stripes.
Adhere these
pieces in the
same order you
did when making
the sides of
the box, with
both pieces carefully
centered to match the matching
papers on the
case sides. |
